The Department of Defense (DOD) currently operates two educational systems for the children of military and civilian DOD families: Child Development Programs (CDP) and the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS). CDP offers childcare and before-and after-school care eligible for children 6 weeks to 14 years of age, for a fee. DoDDS provides free public education to all dependent children in grades K-l 2, plus selected preschool-age children, such as those with disabilities.
