Mr. Robert M. Brady

Biography

Mr. Robert M. Brady joined the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) on 3 June, 2013. He is responsible for financial management of a DoDEA annual operating budget of approximately $2.3 billion and a multi-billion dollar military construction budget for numerous new schools over the next five years. The DoDEA budget supports 161 schools, approximately 65,000 students and more than 14,000 employees worldwide. He is responsible for the Resource Management (Comptroller), Procurement, Information Technology, Human Resources, Logistics, Facilities and Security Management Divisions.

Prior to joining DoDEA, Mr. Brady served for four years in the Pacific Division of Headquarters Marine Corps. At the Pacific Division, he was responsible for financial management and force posture planning for the multi-billion dollar Marine Corps Pacific realignment plan mandated by the “United States - Japan Roadmap for Realignment Implementation” agreement of 2006.

Mr. Brady is a retired Marine Corps Officer who served on active duty from 1978 to 2008. As a Naval Aviator, the majority of his operational assignments were in tactical flying squadrons that globally deployed for land and shipboard operations overseas. As a Lieutenant Colonel, he was the Commanding Officer of a Marine Light/Attack Helicopter Squadron. As a Colonel, he was the Commanding Officer of a Marine Aircraft Group. He has over 3,500 flight hours in the AH-1 “Cobra” attack aircraft.

During his active duty career, Mr. Brady’s senior staff assignments were focused on Department of Defense Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Execution responsibility covering a wide range of fiscal appropriations. Those appropriations included procurement, Research/Development/Test/Evaluation (RDTE), Operations & Maintenance (O&M) and Military Construction. As the Headquarters Marine Corps Aviation Department’s Head for Plans, Programs, Policies and Budget, he was responsible for developing and executing an aircraft procurement/RDTE budget that averaged over $7.3 billion annually and an O&M Flying Hour Program annual budget of over $1.5 billion. As Deputy Director of the Capabilities Development Directorate at the Marine Corps Combat Development Command, he was responsible for development of a ground equipment procurement/RDTE budget that averaged over $3.2 billion annually. He also served as Military Assistant to the Director, Defense Research and Engineering, within the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Mr. Brady holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Massachusetts and a Master’s degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College.
