School Bus Safety Week

National School Bus Safety Week, held during the third full week of October each year, focuses on the importance of school bus safety.

The theme is, "Be Safe; Know the Danger Zone."

As we move into school bus Safety Week across DoDEA Schools, students, parents, School Administration, Transportation Officials and DoDEA Contracted Staff all must play their part and remember the important safety aspects that come with riding a school bus.
Staying vigilant, obeying school bus rules, and staying safe are the most important things to remember.

Evacuation drills are very important. In an accident or an incident where students must evacuate the bus, all belongings must be left behind. Exit the bus through the safest exit. Help others that may have difficultly evacuating the bus. If the driver is unresponsive, recall how to operate the emergency break. Call 911 if you have a cell phone.

Good bus behavior is expected:

• No eating or drinking on the bus.
• Follow all directions from the adults on the bus.
• Keep Volume low.
• Sit face forward in seat and keep the aisles clear of feet and all belongings.
• Be at the bus stop 5 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
• Do not play or stand in the street while waiting for the bus to arrive.
