School Meal Program

School Meal Program

Qualified child nutrition professionals provide students with access to a variety of affordable, nutritious, and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.

To the maximum extent possible, DoDEA schools participate in available DoD Student Meal Programs. Qualified child nutrition professionals provide students with access to a variety of affordable, nutritious, and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students and accommodate religious, ethnic, and cultural diversity of the student body in meal planning and provides clean, safe, and pleasant settings and adequate time for students to eat.

Each DoDEA District has a District Wellness Policy that sets nutrition guidelines for all foods and beverages available during the school day. It also contains goals for nutrition education, physical activity and other school activities such as staff wellness programs. In order for the most efficient wellness policy, Districts bring together Wellness Committees comprised of members of the school and community who share a vision of promoting quality nutrition and physical activity. Don't forget to have a Good Breakfast!
Don't forget that a good breakfast is the most important meal of the day for students. This meal's very name describes the important role it plays - breakfast breaks the fast you've endured all night while you slept. Traditional wisdom has been that you need to eat something for breakfast, even if most mornings find your house hectic and hurried, and even if you don't feel hungry. But, recent breakfast research demonstrates that what you eat matters just as much as the fact that you do eat.
