Joseph Bianco, a facility operations specialist, oversees seven DoDEA schools in the United Kingdom and the Community Superintendent’s Office at Feltwell Air Base, providing invaluable support.
DoDEA does not have its own maintenance contract in the UK and relies on the base operations support contract, which can experience slow responses and project delays. Despite these challenges, Bianco successfully completed a heating project at Lakenheath High School that has been ongoing for two years. He also established a service contract at Alconbury for critical kitchen equipment repairs and worked on heating boiler replacements, storm-damaged roof repairs, and elevator installations at Alconbury.
Bianco initiated discussions with group commanders at Lakenheath and Alconbury to improve maintenance support for DoDEA schools, expanding these talks to include the Defense Infrastructure Organization (DIO). These discussions have enhanced communication and project execution. Bianco continues to lead bi-weekly meetings with DIO and the engineering squadron to track outstanding work and funding that is at risk of expiring on projects yet to be completed.
The leadership and dedication to resolving issues and improving performance exhibited by Bianco has been nothing short of outstanding. He has and continues to be an extremely positive force in driving change and support to DoDEA schools in the UK.
