Selection Process


There will be a nomination process to select the Dr. Linda L. Curtis Educator of Promise recipient. The nomination period will open on February 16 and extend through March 29, 2024. Any DoDEA employee can nominate an educator for the Dr. Linda L. Curtis Educator of Promise Award. The nominated teacher must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Must have less than three years of teaching experience.
  2. Must have endorsements from both the Principal and District Superintendent.
  3. Should be a teacher who has demonstrated collaboration with stakeholders to ensure equitable learning experiences for all students, as described in Goal 1.1of the DoDEA Blueprint for Continuous Improvement.
  4. Should be a person who serves as a positive ambassador for military-connected schools, teachers, students, and families.
  5. Must demonstrate the attributes of teacher leadership as defined by DoDEA's adopted definition (see below).

York-Barr (2004) defines Teacher Leadership as "the process by which teachers, individually or collectively, influence their colleagues, principals, and other members of the school community to improve teaching and learning with the aim of increased student learning and achievement."
