0150 - Elementary Teacher, Art

Description

A major in art or a minimum of 24 semester hours in art is required. Coursework must include a methods course in teaching art at the elementary level and at least one course each in drawing, painting, and art history/art appreciation. A minimum of 9 upper level semester hours in art is required.

0151 - Elementary Teacher, Music

Description

A major in music or a minimum of 24 semester hours in music is required. Coursework must include a methods course in teaching music at the elementary level. A minimum of 9 upper level semester hours in music is required.

0155 - Elementary Teacher, Physical Education

Description

A major in physical education or a minimum of 24 semester hours in physical education. Coursework must include a methods course in teaching physical education at the elementary level. A minimum of 9 upper level semester hours in physical education is required.

0109 - Teacher, Compensatory Education Reading (Elementary)

Description

The applicant seeking an endorsement in Compensatory Education, Reading, shall fulfill all the requirements for an endorsement in elementary education and have a minimum of 24 semester hours of coursework in reading/language arts. Two years elementary classroom experience is desired.

0110 - Teacher, Compensatory Education, Mathematics (Elementary)

Description

The applicant seeking an endorsement in Compensatory Education, Mathematics, shall fulfill all the requirements for an endorsement in elementary education and have a minimum of 15 semester hours of coursework in mathematics. Only math credits earned from a Mathematics Department are acceptable. Two years elementary classroom experience is desired.

0101-0103 - Teacher, Elementary grades 1-3

Description

Coursework must include methods of teaching reading, math, language arts, and science. Note: in addition, a methods course or 1 year teaching experience in art, music, or physical education in the elementary school is required. Two years elementary classroom experience is desired. All applicants must have completed a minimum of 3 semester hours containing early childhood education if reassignment to lower elementary grades 1-3 becomes necessary for continuous employment.

0148 - Teacher, Elementary grades 1-3, Language Immersion

Description

Applicants must first meet the educational requirements for categories 0101-0108. Applicants must provide proof of near native proficiency to instruct languages in German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Chinese, or French. The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, Inc. (ACTFL) may be contacted in Yonkers, New York, at (914) 963-7110 (Language Testing) to schedule for an Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI). Applicants must submit a rating of "Advanced High" or "Superior" to DoDEA.

0104-0106 - Teacher, Elementary grades 4-6

Description

All applicants must have completed a minimum of 3 semester hours containing early childhood education if reassignment to lower elementary grades 1-3 becomes necessary for continuous employment.

0095 - Teacher, Kindergarten (Elementary School)

Description

A major in early childhood education or a degree in elementary education with 24 semester hours in early childhood education is required. The 24 semester hours must be in the course description or title containing early childhood, kindergarten, or pre-kindergarten training. Coursework in methods of teaching emerging literacy and methods of teaching mathematics for early childhood, kindergarten, or pre-kindergarten is required. Two years of full-time experience teaching pre-kindergarten or kindergarten may be substituted for 3 semester hours of the required early childhood education coursework.

0096 - Teacher, Kindergarten, Language Immersion (Elementary School)

Description

Applicants must meet the educational requirements for category 0095. Applicants must provide proof of near native proficiency to instruct languages in German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, or Korean. The proof of near native proficiency is evidenced by submitting a rating of an "Advanced High" or "Superior" rating from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, Inc. (ACTFL). ACTFL may be contacted at (914) 963-7110 (Language Testing) to make arrangements for an Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI).

0090 - Teacher, Prekindergarten (Elementary School)

Description

A major in early childhood education or a degree in elementary education with 24 semester hours in early childhood education is required. The 24 semester hours must be in course description or title containing early childhood, kindergarten, or prekindergarten training. Coursework in methods of teaching emerging literacy and methods of teaching mathematics for early childhood, kindergarten, or prekindergarten is required. An unencumbered professional teaching license in early childhood or its state equivalent will be considered to have fulfilled these requirements.
