Assessment of the Performance toward Proficiency in Languages

Assessments for World Languages Students

The World Languages assessment is administered in late spring to middle school students enrolled in Levels I-IV foreign languages courses.

The assessment is designed to assess student’s proficiency in three modes of communication (Interpersonal, Interpretive Listening/Speaking, and Presentational Speaking/Writing) as defined by the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages and DoDEA’s adopted World Language standards.

The Avant STAMP (STAndards-based Measurement of Proficiency) language assessment is a web-based computer-adaptive proficiency and performance assessment of K-12 standards-based language learning. It assesses tasks across four skills for STAMP 4-S, two skills for STAMP WS (Writing and Speaking), and two skills for STAMP for ASL (American Sign Language) as defined by the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages.

Student Participation

Students in grades 7-12 who are enrolled in World Languages courses at Level I-IV will be administered the STAMP to measure performance and proficiency in World Languages.

Features of the STAMP include:

Avant’s assessments utilize actual authentic texts and audio you would encounter in the real world such as articles, advertisements, and news. The online computer-adaptive assessment eliminates questions that are too easy or too difficult fore each test taker allowing them to reach their highest level of proficiency.

STAMP Score Reports

A score report with proficiency levels for each component of the test is issued for each student. Students receive an Individual Student Report (ISR) with an explanation of each score and recommendation for improvement.
